In remote areas, communication with rig operations is essential. Where cell phone reception is poor at best and land lines are not available, NOV M/D Totco’s Voice over IP (VoIP) solution enables high quality telephone communication, even in the most remote areas anywhere in North America. Subscribers to NOV M/D Totco’s WellData Service can now add telephone service at the rigsite with RigTone Voice over IP. Voice prioritization provides cellular quality service even in the most remote locations with no dropped calls. Using the existing RigSense® satellite link and internet protocol (IP), voice calls are no longer dependent upon land lines or cell towers. With a simple service agreement, RigTone technology is provided at the rigsite. An NOV M/D Totco service technician will install an Ethernet switch and an analog phone adapter, allowing the customer to plug in and connect using any standard telephone. Each phone adapter is assigned a new phone number and each rigsite system can support up to three telephones.
