In 1999, NOV M/D Totco introduced its RigSense® Wellsite Information System, which combines leading hardware and software technologies into an integrated drilling rig package. Access to drilling data is provided to offsite locations, enabling company personnel to monitor drilling operations from an office environment through a secure link.

Systems are both sold and rented throughout the world and are comprised of hazardous area sensors placed throughout the rig to measure critical drilling parameters; all systems are networked back to a central command station for review, recording, and interpretation. This allows key rig personnel to perform individual jobs more effectively.

RigSense information systems reach far beyond today’s leading instrumentation, displays, and drilling recorders with touchscreen, multifunction displays. Much more than just a drillfloor monitor, RigSense information system allows the driller to configure screens to display drilling information that best suits his needs. You can view data numerically and/or in graphs. Alarm conditions can be set and are indicated by readily identifiable yellow and red backgrounds; alarm parameters are easily modified for changing conditions and rig activity; and you can proactively manage your drilling process before problems occur.

Electronic Drilling Recorder (EDR)
With the touch of a finger, a RigSense system becomes a doghouse recorder. Taking the place of old-fashioned pen-and-paper recorders, it records all rig activity for up to one year. Records are searchable and can be viewed at a variety of resolutions. The RigSense system operates as a single interface, allowing rig personnel to access historical information, make notations, and send messages to communicate with other displays on the rig.

Streamline drilling operations using the Pipe Tally feature. It assists the driller by automating mundane tasks such as calculating BHA lengths, drill pipe length, drill string length, and kelly-down depth.

Pit Volume Totalizer (PVT)
With another touch of your finger, RigSense system now becomes a PVT system, delivering vital information on mud volume and flow conditions. Monitor these parameters to deal with a potential kick quickly and effectively. The company man and toolpusher can instantly review the same information on their displays so that decisions on courses of action can be reached efficiently.

Wellsite Gas Watch Gas Detector Support
The latest wireless, infrared, dual hydrocarbon sensing technology of Wellsite Gas Watch is incorporated into RigSense. Triple curve time and depth based logs for equivalent methane in air, equivalent propane in air and total gas percentage by volume are available. Geologists can also view, annotate, and print logs based on time or depth.

e-Totco Drift Tool Interface
The e-Totco saves time and improves the efficiency of drift survey measurements for vertically-drilled wellbores. The data gathered with the e-Totco drift recorder is digital, discrete, and accurate. The integration of the e-Totco with RigSense® system provides inclination data storage capability and removes the requirement to manually fill out paper reports. Through RigSense electronic drilling recorder, data from the survey ticket can be uploaded into the form W-12 or other regulatory reports. Approvals can then be facilitated using our exclusive signature pad.

Productivity Around the Rig
